The new academic session of 2013-2014 started in April 1 with the introduction of an audio visual learning system (smart/digital classroom).
This year students with learning challenges are divided into separate groups, and special coaching is being given to them to bring them upto the level of other students.
Forty more students from remote areas of Orissa were admitted into the nursery class; in June the honorable Principal Mr. P.P. Singh formally welcomed them.
Life skills, sports and arts & crafts are part of the curriculum and evaluation. In May, students of Classes IV-VIII were encouraged to visualize their “Goal of Life” through painting. Students also learn various Indian classical and Odishi dance, music and tabla.
To encourage self-reliance vocational training is imparted to students of class VIII, including tailoring, computer hardware, plumbing and vermi composting.
A new computer lab with 45 computers has been setup to help integrate technology into student’s education.
Football coaching for boys was conducted in May and in June the students of class VIII participated for the first time in a state level football tournament and managed to reach the semi-finals. Volleyball coaching for girls were also conducted in the same month.
In June Professors from the renowned IIT Kharagpur visited Balashram and interacted with students and teachers regarding various projects that were to be exhibited in July on the Foundation day of the school.
In July the 10th Anniversary of Balashram Foundation Day took place with much celebration. All the students participated in drama, song and dance, art and science exhibitions, enthusiastically showing their talents. The new junior science and math labs were also inaugurated during this event.
