Balashram Details
Staff at Hariharananda Balashram:
Here is a brief overview of staff at Balashram.
- Teaching Staff :- 23 including Principal & Vice-Principal. Four of them teach math and science. We have 4 TGTs (trained graduate teachers), 2 PRT’s (trained Primary Teachers), 2 P.E.Ts (physical education teachers 1 male and 1 female), 1 Art Teacher, 3 music teachers, 1 computer instructor, 5 untrained teachers, 3 teaching assistants.
- The school is supported by three non-teaching staff who take care of accounts, office management etc.
- The cleaning of the school is carried out by two sweepers.
- The Girls Hostel and Boys Hostel is headed by a Superintendent (1 each). They are supported by 37 people who serve as care-takers or dorm parents. Caretakers usually attend to cleaning jobs whereas dorm parents assist the child in study and personally guide them. Of these 37 – 5 of them serve as dormparents.
- The cooking is contracted to a group of cooks.
Academics
As per the evaluation system is concerned the School is following CCE pattern. Under this pattern, 1st Summative Test assessment was conducted from 10th to 15th November 2012 for classes III to VII. This assessment has 10% of weightage in academic session. Regular assessments were conducted to pre-primary classes. All the students were assessed. However due to participation in outside events, some students took up the assessments later.

Based on the above results and in comparison with student’s performance in last formative assessment, teachers have come up with following action plan. The same has been implemented in the school
1. To give special attention towards few students to help them to perform better. There arranged a different class called remedial class comprising all the slow learners may be of 10nos. for their improvement.
2. Extra coaching courses during afternoon for the students who need individual time.
3. Extra assignment in maths for practice.
4. Follow up of assignments given in class.
Co-Curricular Activities(CCA)
CCA (Co-Curricular Activities) plays a vital role for assessing the exposure of students in different activities besides the usual classes. Different Co-curricular Activities are done regularly on every Saturday evening (6pm-8pm) house wise as the students are divided into 4 houses named as Valmiki, Vasistha, Viswamitra, Vyasa. The results of different activities are given below.

Participation in various Competitions (outside of the school)
30th October 2012
Searching talent in the children of Odisha the government of Odisha organises Sisu Mahostav (Children Festival) every year in every district of the state. The students of Balashram had not left the opportunity. They participated in the festival (Shisu Mahostav-2012) at Chaudakulat in different categories i.e., quiz competition, Odia debate, art competition, dance, song and mono acting. Except song, in all categories the students of Balashram proved their talent and were nominated to participate in the block level competition organised at Nikirai of Kendapara district.
2nd November 2012
To evolve the imaginative and creative brilliance among the children, Anjali International Children’s Festival organised by SWABHIMAN at Bhubaneswar. The children from different parts of the world had participated and the children of Balashram did not leave the juncture to prove them and enjoy with others. The program continued for seven days. Six students of our school participated in different activities and workshops like toy making, song competition, dance competition, mask making, terracotta etc. the learned from other children as well enjoyed a lot.
11th November 2012
A district level competition organized by The Samabad (an Odia daily newspaper) named as ‘Ama Odisha’. Eight students of Balashram participated in different competition i.e. art competition and good handwriting competition two of them namely S. Adishree Mohanty of class-V and Chenny Hembrum of class-V got the second and third position respectively.

Sports Coaching
Special coaching for football and volley ball both for boys and girls was conducted for 10 days (from 21st to 30th October 2012) by Chitta Ranjan Das, coach of Football Association of Odisha (FAO) and Srikant Parida, a state level volley ball player.
12th December 2012
To infuse the sportive spirit among the students the Annual Athletic Meet 2012-13 had organized in the school playground. Sixty three events were organized and all the students took part in various events according their talent. The sport was inaugurated by Mr. Sri Narayan Chandra Behera, D.S.O of Kendrapara, as chief guest and Sri Narayan Chandra Barik, advocate and volley ball coach as guest of honor. At the time of inauguration the some students of class V, VI and VII performed an oddisi dance and folk dance and some students of std. III & IV performed aerobic. Saras Pradhan and Sumitra Mandal of class VII were anchoring the program. All the teachers engaged themselves in different activities there. Sabita Dalai, Omprakash Perei of class VII and Chaney Hembrum of class V were the champions of the year 2012-13.
Scout Training
All Odisha state level Scout competition and training was held at Capital High School, Unit/3,Bhubaneswar.

Achievement. Meghanad got 2nd prize in Art comp and Camp Craft. The band set party of our school remained in 5th position in the state competition. They got a new vision after attending this camp.
Celebrations @ Balashram
10th Aug 2012
On 10th August the 53rd birthday of Guruji (Paramhamsa Prajnanananda) was celebrated. Though the celebration didn’t happen lavishly but it was sincerely observed by all the members of Balashram. The school assembly began with worship on the lotus feet of Guruji’s image. Br. Anandananda gave a short talk on Guruji’s idea behind formation of the Balashram.
The evening program started at 6 o’ clock. A group song was sung by children of Balashram, devotional song by the care takers of Boys Hostel and Girls’ Hostel. Few students spoke in English, Odia and Hindi about their views and thoughts on Guruji. Trijibi Baba, the elder brother of Guruji gave an impressive talk on Guruji’s life and talked about the birth of Krushna and Rama.
15th August 2012
The 66th Independence Day was celebrated at Balashram. Intensive preparation had been started two days before under the guidance of our PETs, Mr Gopinath Dash and Mrs Ambika Mohanty. This year, the Scouts and Guides of Balashram gave a new look to Independence Day celebration. The day became more special when Swami Shuddhanandaji, the President of Prajnana Mission and Swami Achalanandaji, the Secretary of Prajnana Mission joined in the observation.
The program was anchored by Sumitra Mandal, student of class-VII. After March past, Saras Pradhan, (class VII), Pravasini Maharana,( Class VI) and Hemant Patra (Class VII) presented their views on freedom movement in India in different languages i.e., English, Hindi and Odia.
The Principal addressed the gathering in our national language, Hindi. He told on the current national scenario of our country and role of each student in making the nation. Swami Achalanandaji, the Secretary, Prajnana Mission addressed the gathering emphasizing on non-violence and discipline. Swami Shuddhanandji addressing gatherings had told “freedom should be in the heart and mind of every Indian”.

On 5th September ‘Teachers’ Day was celebrated in the Balashram. Since last two years Teachers Day has been celebrated in the Balashram being the students of higher classes as teachers. This year Teachers’ Day was celebrated in an innovative way. The students organized various events like game and quiz for teachers. Playing the role of a teacher the students of higher classes taught and guided the younger students. In the evening cultural programs had been performed by the students. On the day Swami Shuddhanandji, the President of Prajnana Mission was the chief guest who enjoyed the program and gave blessings with his loving speech.
Thus Teachers’ Day was celebrated with a friendly environment. It developed the fellow-feeling between teachers and students. It enhances the teaching and learning skill among the students.
The children’s day celebration in Balashram on 14th November was a very pensive one. The adorable students were ecstatic as there were many competitions among them, a magic show and cultural programs. The trivial programs were very efficacious. They learnt how to show ideal propriety and be compliance. The day with a print of respect and love. Revered Sw. Shuddhananda ji was present during celebration. Revered Guruji also had sent a special message during children’s day.
2nd October 2012 (Gandhi Jayanti)
The embodiment of non-violence and the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s birth day which is popularly known as Gandhi Jayanti was observed in the evening program of our school. The students eagerly participated in the program and expressed their views on Gandhiji.
The denizens of Balashram on the ceremonious celebration of diwali (13/11/2012) congregated in the school campus and were agog when they lighted the lamps. Their bliss was at peak when they witnessed incessant glow of colorful crackers. Revered Sw. Shuddhanadaji and other souls made the nocturnal program fabulous and the students made a shot in the dark not to applaud noise pollution but to diffuse happiness among all.
During kartika, holy month of Indian calendar, full moon day(28/11/2012) is celebrated in a special way. On that day, early in the morning children made boats of various sizes and shape. They all gathered near the Balashram pond and made their boats sail. They also went around the village and paid devotion in the nearby temple of village.
Special program was recorded on 11/11/2012 for 10th anniversary celebrations of mahasamadhi of Gurudev. This included several group songs and group dances. It was nearly an hour’s program in which more than 50 students participated.

As every year the holy Merry Christmas and Gita Jayanti were celebrated in the school. Commemorating the holy birth of Jesus and mother Gita (Holy Book)all the children assembled in the meditation hall and did lit the lamp as well as performed some cultural programs.
1st and 2nd January 2013
After the New Year celebration on 1st January the school reopens with new vigour and courage on 2nd January and the classes resumes as usual. About 1 o’ clock Guruji came to Balashram and blessed the students distributing sweets to the children as well as other members of the school.
23rd January 2013
The birth day of Indian freedom fighters – Subash Chandra Bose and Vir Surendra Sai, were observed in the school. In the evening classes most of the students gave speeches on the life of great freedom fighters and their contribution in the Indian Freedom Movement.
26th January 2013
The 64th Republic Day observed in the school premises. Swami Samarpanananda Giri, the former exponent of Indian polity and the present vice president of Prajnana Mission was the informal guest on the occasion. He inculcated patriotic spirit among the students by his speech. P.P. Singh, the emperor of Balashram as told by Swami Samarpananandji gave an advisory speech in Hindi on character building of the students. Swami Gurukrupanandaji along with other saintly persons was joined in the observation.
